Ecochain | Company Level | Usages & Emissions
Luc

Hi there, I'm Luc Hillege from Ecochain. Today I will be explaining how you can add usages and emissions on a company level in the Ecochain platform.

As you know, every company that makes products has inputs such as raw materials, energy, water and fuel usage, to eventually make products. As a company, you would have data on these items. So, where do you fill in the data in Ecochain? In Ecochain, you have the company level. You can go there by pressing continue on a company level, or you can go to the navigation bar on top and press. Usages and emissions. If you are in an empty year, such as now, you have a blank sheet and in this blank sheet you just have one option. You can add new footprint items. So the goal of this video is to learn you how you can enter footprint items such as electricity, water and diesel. Those are the three things that we will add in this video. Click on the green button. You can see that there are options in the popup that you can choose from. For example scope one direct emissions, scope to indirect emissions and on several levels and the categories of scope three, according to the greenhouse gas protocol, you can enter additional items. For this example, we will be using scope two indirect emissions to enter your electricity data.

So if you press scope to indirect emissions, you can select several options. So there are entries that you can make using specific electricity sources which is in the list here below, where you have a range of options from renewables and also conventional energy and the electricity mixes. For your production facility, you can also choose an average electricity mix per country. There are a lot of options here ranging from Africa all the way to Vietnam there are different country specific electricity mixes that you can choose from. for this example, we are looking at a concrete plant, which might be located for example, in Belgium. Here you can enter the total amount of energy that you use for the production of concrete. So we are looking at a full year and entering the data would looks something like this. The production of concrete for a year uses total of 15,000 kilowatt hours. Ecochain also has. The options to provide comments and fields. Normally I would enter where I retrieved my data from. For example, invoice of energy supplier. Once you have done these steps you can add the item.

Congratulations. You've now made your first entry into the Ecochain system. You just entered electricity. But we also wanted to enter diesel. So press add new footprint item. And we are going to look for diesel. Diesel which burnt on-site onsite, for example, for internal transport, emits direct emissions. So in scope, one direct emissions, you find several fuels. Besides all the direct emissions that can occur during the production, which is a really extensive list of possible emissions, we also have the option to select direct fuel use. Click on the button here. In here you can see that we have listed, for example, diesel, LPG and Petrol as fuel usages. We're going to enter diesel. let's say we use a volume of 500 liters for internal transports of raw materials. There you go. Add item.

So now we also want to enter water usage or the water consumption. Again, press add new footprint item, go to direct emissions. And here you will find water usage which is from water supply. Note that this functional unit is liter and in some cases your Water supplier might have listed your water usage in cubicle meters, so in case you have one cubicle meter of water used, you would enter 1000 liters. Again, you can add comments, if you would like to , but if you don't want to, just press add item.

So that was it. You just entered several energy, water and fuel consumption's into the Ecochain platform on the usages and emission page.
